Steve Bundy:

Fine Art Photography

“My photographs are not planned or composed in advance, and I do not anticipate that the onlooker will share my viewpoint. However, I feel that if my photograph leaves an image on his mind, something has been accomplished.”
"Robert Frank"

Originally from Southern Indiana, my parents moved west to Southern California in 1963 where I’ve lived ever since. In 2005 while on vacation in Arizona and New Mexico, driving through the village of Taos - my wife and I were struck with the feeling that we had come home. We’ve since learned that Taos has a history of drawing people in and this is not unusual for mysterious Northern New Mexico. Within the next few months we purchased a second home and began the tasks of expanding our lives to include the cultures and peoples of this area - hoping to be assimilated and accepted as new TaosaƱos.

Living part-time in Southern California and Northern New Mexico has offered me unlimited opportunities for interesting and exciting photography. My goal is to capture and preserve the vast landscapes, crumbling buildings, forgotten rusting cars and evidence of diverse cultures I find in my travels. I find inspiration discovering intriguing hidden, remote villages that seem to be melting back into the earth. My wish is to give these timeless places new recognition.

Photography has always been a part of my life - in the last few years becoming my passion. It fills an overwhelming need to capture the images I see that form within my mind’s eye. I’ve found that digital capture meets my personal needs and Adobe Photoshop functions perfectly as a 21st century darkroom.

When people view my images it is my hope that they see beyond my vision and experience their own feelings and emotions. Hopefully though my eyes they might gain a new perspective and see their world in a new and expanded way. I believe that the goal of all art forms is to expand ones point of view and deepen our understanding and enjoyment of our everyday world.

Important influences and inspiration to my work include: Ansel Adams, Craig Varjabedian, Dorothea Lange, Edward S. Curtis, Paul Strand, Paul Caponigro, and of course my wife/artist Christie Bundy. In each of my images I strive to apply the Ansel Adams Zone System for maximum tonal qualities, and look to apply the emotions & qualities that each of these artists’s applied or still apply to their own work.
